The Dig - May 3 (new date)
Have you ever wondered what the people before us were like? Do you enjoy finding things or just digging in dirt? Then this program is for you! This is a day program for fifth graders through eighth graders. Learn how to be an archaeologist and dig in a model archaeological site at the library! This program will be held Saturday, May 3, from 10:00 to 12:30 at the Bentley Memorial Library and will be led by Alexandra Schipani, a Bolton High School student. If the weather is bad this program will be rescheduled. Please sign up at the library as soon as possible. If you have any questions or would like to register, call the library at 646-7349.
Join the "Big Read" - May 1
Join Bolton and other Hartford-area towns in the Big Read this spring. We're reading the classic Dashiell Hammett novel, "The Maltese Falcon." The library has multiple copies to be borrowed, as well as study guides and movies. Please join us for a book discussion Thursday, May 1, at 7 p.m.
The discussion will be led by Dr. Carol B. Shmurak, Professor Emeritus at Central Connecticut State University, where she still teaches a course in the history and philosophy of education. She is the author of 10 books, including "Deadmistress," her first mystery featuring professor/sleuth Susan Lombardi, which was named a Notable Book of 2004 by Writers Notes Magazine. Her second Lombardi mystery, "Death by Committee," came out in fall 2006. Under the pseudonym Carroll Thomas, she is the co-author of the Matty Trescott young adult novels, one of which, "Ring Out Wild Bells," was nominated for the Agatha Award for best young adult mystery of 2001. Dr. Shmurak leads the mystery group discussions at the Simsbury Public Library, was the founder of the mystery readers group at the Farmington Public Library, and is a member of Sisters in Crime and the CT Authors and Publishers Association. She lives in Farmington with her husband Steve and cat Ariel, and has just finished her third Susan Lombardi mystery, "Death at Hilliard High" (due out in 2009).
